American writer and journalist and member of noted family. She is the only child of noted writers F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was an ardent member of the Democratic Party. A reporter by trade, she was also a social and political activist. She wrote for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and served on the staffs of several magazines, including Time, The New Yorker, and The Democratic Digest. In addition to her three books, her news reports and political commentary, she wrote and directed musical comedies for charity performances. Her books are entitled, "Don't Quote Me," which she wrote with Winzola McLendon about the women of the Washington press; "The Romantic Egotists" about her parents, and, "An Alabama Journal 1977." Married and divorced twice, she had four children with her first husband Samuel Jackson Lanahan. She later married Grove Smith. Both her husbands were lawyers. Fitzgerald's biography was written by her daughter Eleanor Lanahan, entitled "Scottie, The Daughter of . . . : The Life of Frances Scott Fitzgerald Lanahan Smith."
