French biologist. He was associate-trainer, attending the Sorbonne, Professor (1956) seconded to the ENS, then professor at Luminy (Marseille) where he finished his career. He first directed the botanical laboratory of the ENS then in 1964 became director of the Institute of Cytology and Cell Biology at Luminy. The name Buvat remain attached to the cytology in light and electron microscopy examination. He introduced the general laws that allow plant cells mature, resume mitotic activity and recover a youthful state with all the features attached to them. He showed that this process of "dedifferentiation" always progresses in two phases. The first phase led to a decline in cell "meristematic secondary" state, the second state back to the "primary meristem." Buvat established that the statements reflect the cell potential: histogenic power to the cells 'secondary meristem "organogène power to the cells' primary meristem.". He died 28 January 2001.
