Costa Rican doctor and politician. He was appointed internal Surgical Clinic Geneva Cantonal Hospital. Travels to Paris, which is at war and joined as surgeon Ambulance Corps. It is also named internal Broussais Hospital in Paris, operating with soldiers wounded in battle, allowing him to acquire a special experience in the care of severe trauma. When the war ended in 1918 the French, grateful government rewards you with the Commemorative Medal of the European War, the Medal of Recognition French Medal of selflessness of the French Red Cross, the Palme d'Or of the French Red Cross and It is named Knight of the Legion of Honor. After the war returns to Costa Rica and joined the Faculty of Medicine on June 21, 1919, entering as a doctor at Hospital San Juan de Dios, where he specializes in orthopedic trauma care. In 1923 he was appointed assistant surgeon and in 1925 became President of the Faculty of Medicine, having previously been vocally and secretary. In 1929 he gets involved in the candidacy of Joaquín García Monge. In 1932 he tops the ballot for Alajuela deputies and elected, Ricardo Jiménez Oreamuno being elected president for the third time. For the 1936 campaign he becomes to postulate as first deputy for the San Jose National Party government opponent, Octavio Arguello Beeche as a candidate and is elected in two periods (1932-1936 and 1936-1940). It was considered that had great potential to run for president for the period 1940-1944, with the support of Ricardo Jiménez Oreamuno and in open opposition to Calderon Guardia.
