French biologist and Radiobiologist. During a visit to the United States in the genetics lab at Cold Spring Harbor in 1945 , he obtained virus mutations by irradiating the host cell during the vegetative propagation of the virus. This work, done in collaboration with Salvador Luria, leads to a new understanding of the intracellular cycle of the virus. He continues this research at the Pasteur Institute and the Radium Institute, where he became the director of the Biology section in 1954. He was a professor at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences and technology (1957-1975) and as chairman or member of many organizations (National Committee for Scientific Research CNRS , International Committee of Photobiology, Scientific Council ' INSERM , etc..). He was one of the most important international figures of radiobiology. He was elected to the Academy of Sciences in 1972. He died 3 June 1998 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Link to French Wikipedia
