American pro hockey player and sports commentator, he played with the Pittsburgh Penguins for several seasons. He signed on with the team in 1982 and began as a featured player in 1988. With him on the team, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992. Bourque played for the New York Rangers and the Ottawa Senators, as well as other teams, retiring from the ice in 1996. In August 1994 he suffered a terrible 30-foot fall while rock-climbing in Lone Rock Canyon, near the Grand Canyon in Arizona. He sustained broken neck vertebrae and other injuries, fracturing his skull and facial bones. In October 2003 he became a commentator/announcer for the Penguins' radio broadcasts.
