American athlete and sports manager; he was named Head Coach of the Green Bay Packers in 2000, and, on February 1, 2001, assumed the combined position of Executive Vice President, Head Coach and General Manager. The team has won more games in his first three years of leadership than under any other coach in their 84-year history. In college, with plans to be a sports writer or lawyer, he majored in English and minored in political science. He played football, calling himself a "plugger" who loved to play and even loved to practice. A chance conversation with his college football coach led him to apply to a Stamford, CT high school for a combined teaching/coaching position and he has been coaching ever since he accepted that position in 1978. In 1981 he joined the University of Pittsburgh coaching ranks, subsequently coaching at Tulane (1983) Holy Cross (1985) and Texas A&M for five years (1989-93). He joined the coaching team at UCLA in 1993 but after one year returned to Texas A&M until he was lured to the Green Bay Packers in 1996. His first job there was tight ends/assistant offensive line coach. One of five children, he was a three sport athlete in high school (wrestling, track and football) and played baseball, basketball and hockey on town and church teams. He and his wife Karen have five children: Sarah (born May 18, 1983), Emily (born January 3, 1987), Matthew (January 19, 1989), Benjamin (September 10, 1992) and Selena (November 21, 1999). He hosts the annual Mike Sherman Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament in support of cystic fibrosis. He claims, "My faith, my family...and the Green Bay Packers are the most important things in my life." Link to Wikipedia biography
