American pro baseball player, a right-hitting/left-throwing pitcher who played for the Cleveland Indians (1986–1991), Cincinnati Reds (1992), Houston Astros (1993–1996), Cleveland Indians (1996), Minnesota Twins (1997–1998), Boston Red Sox (1998), and the Arizona Diamondbacks (1999–2002), with whom he won a World Series championship in 2001. After attending Texas State, Swindell was selected by the Cleveland Indians organization in the first round free-agent draft pick 6/02/1986. He was placed on the disabled list 6/30/1987 for the remainder of the season and a total of four other placements on the disabled list. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds, back to the Indians and then signed with the Minnesota Twins 12/18/1996. While in college, Swindell was named left-handed pitcher of the All-American team 1985-86. Statistically he struck out in his only appearance as a pinch-hitter in 1985 and on a positive note, he struck out 15 batters in one game 5/10/1987 and pitched for one inning in the All-Star Game in 1989.
