Brazilian journalist and writer, noted for conducting the first exclusive world-wide interview with Pope Francis after his election to the Vatican, hosted by Rede Globo de Televisão in 2013. Gerson Camarotti is currently a political commentator on GloboNews and has a column in G1, the news portal of the Globo Network. He graduated in journalism from the Catholic University of Pernambuco and completed a postgraduate degree in Political Science at the University of Brasília. In the federal capital, he worked for the magazines "Veja" and "Época", and the newspapers "O Globo", "O Estado de S.Paulo" and "Correio Braziliense". He is the co-author of the book Memorial do Escândalo (Memorial of the Scandal, 2005) and author of Segredos do Conclave (Secrets of the Conclave, 2013). Camarotti directed two journalistic documentaries, Morte e Vida Severina - 40 anos depois, uma visão jornalística (1995), where he interviewed the poet João Cabral de Melo Neto; and Morte e Vida Severina — 60 anos depois (2015) when, with a GloboNews team, he travelled over 1,400 km in Pernambuco, redoing Severino's path, the epic and tragic character of the poem "Morte e Vida Severina."
