French chemist and pharmacist. Grimaux studied medicine in Paris, where he met the chemist Alfred Naquet which directed him towards research - he left the pharmacy in 1867. His research related to synthetic organic chemistry. He works on the aromatic aldehydes, which are of importance to the industry of synthetic dyes while nascent, and the perfume industry. He also worked on uric compounds which have applications in the pharmaceutical industry. In 1876 he was appointed professor of chemistry at the Agronomic Institute of Paris. In 1894 he was elected as a member of the Academy of Sciences. In January 1898, he was one of the several who signed the petition made to the House of Representatives calling for the retrial of the Dreyfus trail. In February 1898, he was one of several witnesses called by Zola in his defense. He was appointed vice-president of the League for the Defense of Citizens' Rights, established in 1898. The vigorous opposition and media campaigns which he met contributed to the deterioration of his health. He died 2 May 1900 in Paris. Link to French Wikipedia
