American author and a prime example of the near-death-experience, a superstar on the lecture circuit of occult devotees and the author of three books about his NDEs, selling some four million copies. Dannion Brinkley had his first NDE at his home in Aiken, SC on 9/17/1975, 7:05 PM. While talking on the phone during a thunderstorm, a bolt of lightning traveled through the phone line, sending thousands of volts into his head and down through his body, throwing him across the room. Disoriented, he wondered why his then-girlfriend was agitated. He saw his body sprawled on the floor and auras around people in the room. At the hospital in Columbus, he was pronounced dead. He wrote in his first book, "Saved By the Light," 1995, that he found himself moving through a dark tunnel toward an angelic being who led him into a "crystal city." There, he entered a "cathedral of knowledge" where he was shown 13 visions, contained in what he termed "boxes," plus 117 glimpses of possible future events. He revived in the morgue some 28 minutes after his death. He claimed in early 1998 that 95 of these prophetic events had come to pass. As recounted in the book, the events of that day changed Brinkley's life. He spent many months recovering from the physically debilitating effects of electrocution while at the same time discovering mind-reading abilities that, while lessening over time, have remained with him. A second NDE occurred when Brinkley had open-heart surgery on 5/30/1989, 10:10 AM, Charleston, SC, reunited him with his angelic teachers, who revealed he was to use his psychic gifts to help the dying. Another book, At Peace in the Light, soon followed. A third NDE occurred on 9/17/1997, 7:05 AM, Charleston, when Brinkley was hospitalized with life-threatening brain aneurysms. Despite medical opinions to the contrary, he miraculously survived. Besides lectures and book signings, Brinkley currently does hospice work -- using his experiences and gifts to help those who are nearing, and perhaps fear death. Link to Wikipedia biography
