French film actor, producer and director, also noted for mounting the Revue nègre with Joséphine Baker in 1925 while he was artistic director of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées alongside Rolf de Maré. Daven began his career as an actor in seven silent films, 1920-1924, then supervised the French versions of a German film and six Franco-German co-productions, 1931-1932. After his first experience as a production assistant on Monte Cristo by Henri Fescourt (1929), Daven became a producer in 1932, an activity to which he devoted himself exclusively afterwards. He produced sixteen films: five by Marc Allégret, including Gribouille (1937) and Orage (1938); Liliom by Fritz Lang (1934), Les Grandes Manœuvres by René Clair (1955); and Cette nuit-là by Maurice Cazeneuve. In addition, he returned to the United States during the Second World War and produced four American films, including two productions by Henry Hathaway. In 1927, Daven married actress Danièle Parola (1905-1998) who appears in two films produced by him, including Aventure à Paris by Marc Allégret (1936). He died on 17 November 1981 in Paris.
